Prenatal yogA

The prenatal yoga classes invite the mother-to-be to create a space of silence and connection between herself and her baby. She is invited to feel her baby, to communicate with it, to bring her mind to the present moment and that way enjoy the pregnancy to the fullest. Some of the benefits of the prenatal yoga classes include to increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for the birth as well as reduce stress and anxiety and other pregnancy related discomfort. During presential group classes, you will also meet and bond with other pregnant women.

A typical prenatal yoga class includes breathing exercises that help to work through contractions during labour, gentle stretching as well as standing, sitting and lying postures to develop strength, flexibility and balance in different areas of the body. The class usually finalizes with a cool down and a relaxation while paying close attention to the sensations in your body as well as your thoughts and emotions.

Postnatal yoga

A postnatal yoga class is a complete exercise for the whole body. Starting again with some breathing exercises which connect you to your body and bring you to the present. The different postures help to realign the spine and build up strength in the spine. We intend to tone the deep abdominal muscles and want to close the body after birth. Gentle stretching relieves the new mother from stiffness in shoulders and neck which can be caused by holding and breastfeeding the newborn. A usual class finishes with some rest and relaxation.

Additionally to the physical benefits, attending a postnatal yoga class, gives you emotional support and interaction with other mothers.

Even though, I strongly recommend taking that moment for yourself, babies are very welcome to join their mothers during the class.
